Welcome to Napier Community High School

We look forward to seeing more youth supported through our alternative learning environment

Napier Community High School aims to give short term alternative education to students at risk of failing in mainstream education so that they can return to and succeed in their feeder schools, or in the case of older students they can make a successful transition to employment or pre-employment courses.

To achieve these aims our objectives will be to:

• Provide the students with opportunities to succeed with a view to improving their self esteem.

• Provide individual educational and behavioural programmes that reflect the needs of each student.

• Help develop pro-social and life skills so that the students are able to make informed safe decisions about their behaviours both inside and outside a school environment.

• Provide the students with the opportunity to experience a wide range of recreational and creative activities in preparation of constructive use of recreation time.

• Modify the students’ behaviour and learning so that they are able to reintegrate into mainstream classroom situations.

The achievement of these objectives is dependent on a number of factors including:

• The creation of a safe Whanau environment in which students can gain recognition, and positive support.

• Activities geared to provide success and self – confidence.

• Educational programmes (consistent with curriculum) geared to meet individual needs that are relevant and seen to be relevant by the students.

• The consistent use of behaviour modification programmes.

• Good communication and consultation with contributing schools.

• Adequate funding and resources.

• The co-operation of the contributing schools.
